The purpose of the current study was to investigate the relationships between
leisure constraint and leisure constraint negotiation in leisure sports participants
based on the leisure constraint reduction theory, and to examine the difference in
their relationships based on the types of leisure sports. A total of 330 respondents
who participate in leisure sport activities in Seoul and Kyonggi province were
selected using the purposive sampling method, in turn 286 data set was employed
for the analyses. Using SPSS 18.0, frequency analysis, reliability analysis, factor
analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted and
the findings are as follows: First, leisure constraint negotiation significantly affects
leisure constraints. Specifically, controlling intensity of an activity out of leisure
constraint negotiation strategies had a negative effect on negative perception and
risk of injury; and changing interpersonal relations strategy had a negative influence
on lack of time and insufficient condition constraints. However, improvement of
condition strategy had a positive effect on lack of time and risk of injury. Second,
only in individual leisure sports, leisure constraint negotiation had a significant effect
on leisure constraints. Specifically, skill acquisition had a negative effect on facility
and environment, and changing interpersonal relations strategy had a negative effect
on lack of time. Whereas, improvement of condition strategy had a positive
influence on facility and environment and lack of time.
