The purpose of the study is to validate the effect of the group art therapy using reality therapy on
improvement on gratitude and self-integration of the seniors with chronic diseases. Among the seniors from
their 75 to 92 who were staying in the B nursing home in J City, Chungcheongbuk-do, 26 patients
volunteered the group art therapy were selected as the study subjects. They were divided as control group
and experimental group consist of 13 patients. Total of 23 programs were conducted in every weeks from
November 13th, 2009 to May 3rd 2010. Every studies lasted from 60 to 90 minutes. The tools for the study
are gratitude tendency and self-integration scale. A two-way with repeated measures was conducted to
examine the statistical significances of the program between groups (experimental and control) and
test-periods (pre, post, and follow-up test). Duncan's multiple comparisons test was conducted when
interactions between groups and test periods were detected. The summarization of the study is as follows:
First, group art therapy using reality therapy has a positive effect on gratitude of the elderlies with chronic
ailments. Second, group art therapy using reality therapy has a positive effect on self-integration of the
elderlies with chronic ailments.
