The purpose of this study was to explore the role of community dance and the possibility of a win-win relationship in the cultural urban regeneration of Korea based on the cultural democracy view. To this end, academic discussions based on the concepts of cultural capital, cultural capacity, and cultural diversity were considered. Based on this, the following characteristics were derived for the role of local-based community dance that could contribute to cultural urban regeneration: Firstly, local-based community dance creates a community culture that is the basis for cultural and urban regeneration through creative participation of local citizens in culture and arts and cooperative communication. Secondly, local-based community dance becomes a cultural content reflecting the phenomenon and potential value of the region's uniqueness, such as indigenous traditions or lifestyles, cultural and artistic enjoyment and promotion, common problems and solutions, solidarity consciousness and interaction. Thirdly, local-based community dance can play a role in realizing the social, cultural, and historical values of the community in the cultural urban regeneration of a convergent creative way that adds to the traditional culture and products that have been carried out in the region and creative culture. Finally, in cultural urban regeneration, community dance can form a solid culture of community that promotes sustainable development of community. Therefore, the potential possibility of community dance to contribute to cultural urban regeneration was emphasized in this study as a creative community practicing cultural democracy. This argument presupposes that community dance can be a cultural capital that can inspire the cultural capabilities of local members and lead to civic creativity.
