The purpose of this study is to synthesize previous study on the relationship between adolescents'
internalizing problem and protective factors through meta-analysis. Studies from 2001 to 2015 in korea
were collected, of these studies 63 eligible studies were finally analyzed. Under a random-effects model,
overall effect size, and each effect size according to individual facotrs, family factors, peer and school
factors, and environment factors were estimated. To analyze heterogenic effect sizes, study characteristics
such as gender, internalizing problem type, publication year were used as moderator and publication bias
was tested. Data analysis were conducted in CMA(Comprehensive Meta Analysis). Results were as followed.
First, the overall effect size of protective factors was -0.238, which was medium effect size. Second, the
effect size by sub category individual factors were the largest, next family factors, and environment factors
were samll effect size. The result of moderator analysis showed that according to the type of internalizing
problem, the effect size was different. Effect size of depression was the largest and male was larger than
female. Also, as recent studies had large effect size. No publication bias was found. The implication and
limitation of this studies and the direction of future research were discussed.
