The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between leisure
motivation and enduring involvement. Based on the literature suggesting that
motivation and involvement are best conceptualized as multidimensional, we
developed a model in which all dimensions of motivation positively influence
three facets of enduring involvement. Furthermore, it was hypothesized that
respondents’ gender moderates the motivation-involvement relation. Data were
collected from 860 visitors to Cleveland Metroparks. Using SPSS 18.0 and LISREL
8.70, we conducted exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis
(CFA), structural equation modeling (SEM), and invariance testing to examine our
model. The result of these analyses offered support for our model in that all
dimensions of enduring involvement were significantly and positively affected by
at least two facets of motivation. For the moderating effect of gender, variation
in the strengths of the path coefficients was observed between male and female
respondents. The findings of our study demonstrated the nature of
motivation-involvement relation and moderating effect of gender on the relation.
