The purpose of this study was to furnish preliminary data by exploring how multi-cultural families'
infants acquire two languages of their father's country and their mother's country simultaneously and
how their parents support their infants' acquisition of bilingual. The participants of this research are a
multi-cultural family which consists of a Canadian father who uses English mainly and a Korean mother
who uses Korean mainly and an eighteen-month-old infant. This research also had proceeded with the
consent of his parents through explanation about the research purpose and method. For data collection,
I participated and observed them once a week from July 11, 2013 to January 30, 2014(2hours at a
time each) and intended to collect data which was objective and reliable through parents‘ interview,
recording and videotaping. The results are as follows. First, according to a search for the characteristics
appearing in the process of bilingual language acquisition by a multi-cultural family's infant, the infant
received the languages that his father and mother taught him partially and made expressions, and
sometimes he chose one of the two languages and used it for himself. Also, the infant, beginning to
use sentences, classified objects and chose and used the languages(Korean for Koreans, English for
foreigners) Second, according to a search for how the parents support acquisition of bilingual of the
multi-cultural family's infant, it appeared that there were the parents' same perception about two
languages, classification of parents role(role allocation of one's native language: interacting with each
other; father in English, mother in Korean) and to accommodate an infant’s language.
