The ultimate goal of mathematics education is to help students become good problem solvers. Given the fact that students with learning problems often experience difficulties dealing with mathematical problem solving situations, educators need to search effective strategies to teach these students. There are number of problem solving strategies in the literature, and the need of empirical study on those strategies calls for educator\'s attention. The purpose of this study was to identify various strategies for teaching word problem solving to students with learning disabilities. Reviewing the literature, 12 strategies were identified. Each strategy was discussed in terms of its effectiveness, locus of the effectiveness, and its potential as a critical component of the best practice.
